Jurong Lake Rejuvenation Complete After 9 Years

The Jurong Lake region undergone a nine-year rejuvenation and its makeover is ultimately finished, as announced by HDB early in the week.

The Jurong Lake District has been in the process of formulating since 2011 and its nine-year rejuvenation process has currently come to fruition, with the outcome inclusive of interconnected gardens, a new pedestrian mall, commercial spaces, a green roof pavilion, and even a kid’s playground. The district is also set aside to be a car-lite zone and targets to transform into the “Orchard belt of the west”.

As one of the key districts in the west of Singapore, the region around Jurong East MRT station is currently an integrated healthcare hub that houses the Jurong Community Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, amongst additional mixed-use buildings like Jem and Westgate. The rejuvenation of the Jurong Lake District was conceptualized within the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) program and the enhancement of the region has no doubt profited residents in not only Jurong East, but also in the nearby towns like Bukit Batok, condominiums like Clavon Clementi locale, and even all the way to the Blossoms By The Park location.

Pedestrian linkway, integrated healthcare hub, and 15km cycling network

Part of the upgrading process was to include the renewal of the Jurong East Town Centre as well, which has now been rebranded as J Connect. The Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre has undergone a renewal too, and the new space currently consists of a community pavilion with landscaping and a rooftop garden. Residents from Clavon can get to enjoy these upgrades when the visit these neighbourhoods.

In 2020, Jurong residents can also anticipate a new cycling network spanning 15 kilometers around the Taman Jurong estate. In the year 2021, the Jurong Lake Gardens, which currently contains both the Japanese and Chinese gardens, will be finished.

In five to six more years’ time, the Jurong Lake zone targets to become a new tourism center, with a new seven-hectare integrated tourism zone which will encompass the Science center. The whole Jurong Lake district will then cover 360 hectares. The region will also welcome new MRT stations along the up and coming Jurong Region Line from 2027 onwards, followed by the Cross Island Line nearer to the 2030s. Clavon, located within Clementi, will gain from the Cross Island Line as it connects to Clementi.
